The Group’s Global Services practice designs a multi-region AWS architecture for a venerable US Higher Education institution.
Our client operates an extensive portfolio of web applications, APIs, mobile applications and scheduled processes on Amazon Web Services (AWS), to support teaching, research and administrative functions. To mitigate the risk of service disruption in the event of a regional AWS outage, they appointed the Group’s Global Services practice to design and validate a suitable architecture to underpin a resilient, multi-region AWS environment, including databases.
The design is based on a serverless 'pilot light' architecture in a secondary region, minimizing standby infrastructure costs while maintaining recovery readiness. It targets a ‘Recovery Time Objective’ of 15 minutes, successfully achieved during the most recent round of testing.
