Group Elephant, a technology conglomerate with operations in 42 countries, has acquired an equity interest in South Africa-based Xpedient Group.
The transaction was designed to enable Xpedient to achieve its ambitious growth plans, and it includes a formal licensing arrangement and integration with Group Elephant-owned Logbox, which includes functionality for hospitals and practices, covering a slew of functions spanning hospital admissions to patient medical records for individual practices. It also includes peerless clinical collaboration workflow capability, likely a crucial enabler as Xpedient evolves its billing functionality to cater for the emerging Value Based Care approach, rather than simply fee for service arrangements. Group Elephant plans to expand its ‘healthtech’ capability and presence in South Africa and in due course, a few additional geographies.
‘We are delighted to welcome Group Elephant into our business,’ said Jans van Vuuren, CEO of Xpedient. ‘This deal is a significant milestone for us and through it, we feel poised to make good on our growth ambitions, and greatly expand and refine how we service our clients. We also eagerly anticipate leveraging Group Elephant’s class leading capability in deploying production grade Agentic AI, an area in which they already have an enviable track record worldwide, for large complex organizations.’
‘The transaction represents the launch of an exciting new chapter for Logbox, and our other planned expansions into the Healthtech space,’ said Jac Mare, a Partner with Group Elephant. Xpedient has put us firmly into the medical billing space, which is a logical conclusion of this phase of LogBox’s development, and commencement of its future with the Group’, he added.
In terms of the deal, Xpedient acquired Group Elephant-owned medical billing specialist Synchramed. Mozel van Niekerk, Managing Director of Synchramed, said that ‘the consolidation marks an exciting new chapter for Synchramed, and I eagerly anticipate benefiting from Xpedient’s scale and reputation in the billing space.’
