Group business Evolutio implements an infrastructure observability framework for a global pipeline services business.

Our client provides equipment and maintenance services for oil and gas pipeline infrastructure across multiple continents. Its complex engineering environment spans field operations and supporting Network Operations Centers (NOCs) in several countries, where analysts rely on an in-house application to visualize live pipeline inspection imagery and sensor data. Persistent performance degradation when rendering graphics, images and associated metadata had affected the application, while disconnected data across the network, database and storage layers made it difficult to pinpoint the cause.

The client appointed Evolutio, the Group’s observability specialist, to implement end-to-end observability across this critical application landscape. The resultant engagement included the deployment of Cisco ThousandEyes, to monitor network paths and application delivery across the database and storage environments. Evolutio also supported the ingestion of data into Splunk, which subsumed server logs, infrastructure metrics and alerts into centralized dashboards that provide visibility into the health of pipeline monitoring operations.

This has meaningfully improved visibility across the infrastructure, enabling the client to distinguish more quickly between network latency, database constraints and storage bottlenecks. Proactive alerts and clear performance dashboards have reduced the time to identify and resolve issues, and improved system uptime and the overall experience of the analysts responsible for monitoring critical energy assets.
